KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Muncharoo.com, a website that uses the power of group buying and social networking, and Three Dog Bakery, the world’s original bakery for dogs, have teamed up to help pets that have been displaced by the deadly tornado in Joplin. Funds raised by the effort will provide needed food, medicine and shelter for hurt or homeless pets in Joplin.
“Starting June 4, people can go to our website, www.muncharoo.com, and click on ‘Help the Joplin Pets’ to donate to this worthy effort,” said Eric Vianello, founder of Muncharoo. “All of our employees are animal lovers. After seeing the incredible devastation in Joplin, we have been very concerned about pets that might have been injured or left behind. By teaming up with Three Dog Bakery, we can provide much needed help to those dogs and cats through the Missouri Humane Society.”
For each $10 donation, Muncharoo will issue a voucher that can be redeemed for a Pupcake® at the Three Dog Bakery, located at the Country Club Plaza store, 612 W. 48th Street in Kansas City, Mo.
All proceeds will go to the Three Dog Foundation, a 501 C-3 non-profit organization. They will in turn send it to the Missouri Humane Society to benefit the beloved pets of Joplin.
And so do more than 1700 puppies in New York City alone. Adopt, don’t buy.

What is holistic care? Holistic care is any form of medical care which uses organic means to rebalance both physical and mental states. Its goal is to provide alternative approaches to both prevent and cure common ailments and diseases without the use of drug therapy and unnecessary surgery. Some examples of this include dietary augmentation with supplements made from herbal ingredients, Thai Chi, yoga, and other eastern medicinal practices. Chiropractic care also falls into this category. [click to continue…]

Last week Cosmo the lab got a condition called “uveitis” Mommy had never heard of it but it was quite a scare and not uncommon. I found this article from Petplace.com that explains the condition. Luckily, the cause of his uveitis was “ideopathic” which means they don’t know why he got it. And he’s fine now. But here’s some information for you:
Anterior uveitis is inflammation that affects the front or anterior part of the eye called the uvea, which is the dark tissue of the eye that contains blood vessels. The iris – the tissue that makes up the pupil – is typically involved. The posterior part of the eye may or may not be affected.
The causes of anterior uveitis include:
Immune-mediated conditions, in which the body attacks its own tissues
Infections from viruses, parasites, fungi, bacteria, rickettsia
Tumors or cancers
Trauma or injury to the eye
Metabolic disease elsewhere in the body that is affecting the eye
Idiopathic, which means the cause is unknown
Lens-induced, which is caused by the escape of lens protein into the eye fluid and is most frequently associated with cataracts
Older animals are more likely to have tumors, and indoor/outdoor pets are more likely to be exposed to infectious causes than pets housed strictly indoors.

In 2005 Leader Dogs for the Blind became the first guide dog organization to provide GPS training to people while they also used a cane or a guide dog. On Tuesday, May 24, 10:00 a.m. Leader Dogs for the Blind will launch a new personal navigation device that will dramatically increase a blind or visually impaired person’s ability to travel on foot independently. The new Kapten PLUS unit creates the first truly affordable GPS solution tailored for the blind, at a price of only $295, compared to earlier costs in the thousands of dollars. The device will be offered at no cost to all Leader Dog clients. It will also be available to other blind and visually impaired persons through its online gift shop, www.leaderdog.org.
After intensive early development activity, Leader Dog clients begin testing the Kapten PLUS a year ago. This past March, Kapten PLUS units were used and distributed for free in guide dog instruction as well as orientation and mobility classes at Leader Dog. [click to continue…]
