Animal causes rank at the top as charities

December 11, 2012, SAN FRANCISCO/WASHINGTON, DCRazoo.com, the fastest growing crowdfunding platform for causes, surveyed more than 2,000 Americans and found that animals and their welfare rank in the top 3 when it comes to the top relatable charitable causes – and are in turn more likely to donate to. Animals ranked in the top three along with child welfare causes and causes for specific diseases, with nearly half of Americans (49%) said that they especially relate to animal causes.

One organization that has seen success on Razoo is Seeing Eye, Inc who is currently running aSupport Our Puppies campaign to raise money for two litters of Seeing Eye puppies born during the power outage from Hurricane Sandy. People who are blind or visually impaired – come from all over the United States and Canada to spend up to a month training with a new Seeing Eye® dog. They range in age from 16 to senior citizens, their home environments may be rural or urban, and they may be homemakers, volunteers, or judges.

People and organizations like Seeing Eye who would like to raise money for their favorite animal-related causes can set up a fundraiser at to www.razoo.com – it takes just minutes to get it up and running.  Or people can view the many animal cause-related fundraisers already on the Razoo website and choose the one that is right for them. Either way, Razoo makes it easy to raise money for or donate to everyone’s favorite charity.

“We have hundreds of fundraisers for animal welfare on Razoo – for all types of animals – and they are some of the most popular and most successful,” said Lesley Mansford, CEO of Razoo.com.  “The fact that so many Americans regard animal welfare as one of the easiest causes to relate to isn’t a surprise to us, but we are delighted to see it rank as high as it has.”

The national survey conducted online by Harris Interactive on behalf of Razoo of 2,059 U.S. adults during the week of November 8th – 12th, also found that 94% of U.S. adults say they have donated to those in need.

The survey also showed that giving to others is one of the most pleasurable things someone can do. A majority of those who have ever donated to those in need feel hope in that they are making a difference (60%), followed by feeling satisfied (48%), feeling good about themselves (43%), and feeling excited (28%). Mixed in with the good feelings – 17% feel frustrated because they wish they could give more, and 6% feel guilty that they have what others do not have.

People find donating to others to be one of their three favorite “feel good” activities.  When asked what life events and activities give them the most pleasure from a given list, they responded:

  • Being in love (56%)
  • Hugging my children (48%)
  • Donating to others in need (45%)
